PARAGRAPH OF THE WEEK
Each week, students have a writing homework assignment, given on Monday and due on Friday. It will be a paragraph writing assignment covering various writing skills that we are studying. This writing, called “Paragraph of the Week” is designed to give practice with writing various types of paragraphs. In addition, it reinforces good study habits and preparation of long-term assignments. Students are expected to go through the writing process in an organized manner.
Below is the recommended “schedule” for working towards a final copy. Establishing a homework pattern each night assists in developing good organizational habits. It is very obvious in the quality of the work when a student leaves everything to Thursday night and then rushes through. I have included the grading rubric for the Paragraph of the Week.
Monday: Topic assigned and brainstorm
Tuesday: 1st Draft
Wednesday: Edited 1st Draft---have a parent help you
Thursday: Correct Final Copy
Friday: Hand in all pages stapled together
This includes 4 parts- brainstorm, 1st draft, edited 1st draft, and final copy; all pieces of the assignment must be stapled.
